How We Test & Score Every Electric Bike

At Ebike Overlands, we do not simply regurgitate manufacturer marketing copy. We benchmark real motor torque, effective range per Watt-hour (Wh), frame geometry, UL fire-safety certifications, and emergency brake stopping distances under real-world overlanding conditions.

1. Real Motor Output, Torque (Nm) & Sensors

We distinguish between nominal and peak wattage. We benchmark grade-climbing capability on 15% to 25% inclines and evaluate responsiveness differences between torque and cadence sensors.

2. True Real-World Range (Watt-Hours Wh)

We calculate true battery storage in Watt-hours (Volts x Amp-hours). We test distance with 185 lb riders across medium PAS and throttle-only modes, eliminating deceptive laboratory claims.

3. Braking Distance, Suspension & Safety

A 65 lb eBike at 28 mph demands exceptional stopping power. We test hydraulic vs mechanical disc systems (180mm to 203mm rotors), stopping distances, and electronic motor-inhibitor cutoff switches.

Key Metric: Emergency stop distance from 20 mph.

4. Frame Build, Overlanding Payload & Fit

We inspect 6061 hydroformed aluminum welds, integrated pannier and cargo rack mounts, real-world payload capacity (300 to 450 lbs), and step-thru vs step-over geometry for rider heights (5'1" to 6'5").
